York police seek two men following alleged arson at Vaughan grocery store

UPDATE: The suspects have been identified and police discovered they are youths. As such, their images have been removed.

York Regional Police is seeking two men believed responsible for intentionally setting fire to a Vaughan grocery store.

The alleged incident took place Sunday at about 7:30 p.m. in the Weston Road and Rutherford Road area of Woodbridge.

When police arrived, smoke could be seen coming from the inside the store. The building and nearby businesses were evacuated.

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services extinguished the blaze.

Video surveillance from the grocery store captured two suspects lighting a fire inside the store, said police. After the fire was lit, the suspects left the store and walked south through the parking lot toward Rutherford.

Initial damage estimates are in the millions of dollars and the store remains closed.

York Regional Police and the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management continue to investigate.
