More than a hundred commercial vehicles have been taken off the road, following a two day police blitz in York Region.
York Regional Police and the Ministry of Transportation randomly inspected 334 commercial vehicles in Vaughan on Wednesday and Thursday. Of those vehicles, 138 or 41 per cent of them were deemed unsafe for the road.
Police say many of the vehicles had mechanical defects and safety violations, including improper tires, breaking systems and insecure loads.
The vehicles were taken out of service, and 283 provincial offence notices were issued. The blitz also involved officers with Barrie and South Simcoe Police.
