Regional councillors are moving to avoid potential turf wars at taxi stands involving cab drivers and Uber drivers.
They’ve made a change to a traffic and parking bylaw that would spell out taxi stands are for cab drivers only.
The change, which still needs council’s full approval June 1st, was proposed by Councillor Jane Mitchell.
She tells the Record, “I just see big trouble,” if taxi stands are open to everyone, which they currently are.
Councillor Karen Redman agrees, telling the paper, it could “create a hot spot for a turf war.”
The proposed traffic and parking bylaw change comes with council poised to vote on a new taxi bylaw on June 8th.
The council chambers are expected to be packed for that meeting, with a number of delegations expected to attend.
