If you have unpaid fines in York Region, look out; you are on notice.
The region is considering aggressive steps to collect those unpaid fines from things like speeding or failing to wear your seatbelt.
They've been piling up since 1999, and now total more than $45 million.
"We use that money to help run our courts, so that's why we need it." says Joy Hulton, the Regional Solicitor.
These fines aren't from people who aren't aware, they're all people who have pleaded guilt or have been convicted of a Provincial offence.
Among the aggressive new steps: increasing the use of collection agencies, collecting fines through property tax bills, using things like property liens or garnishment of wages and adding additional administrative charges.
The topic will be discussed at council on Thursday.
