Vaughan Film Festival to feature Indian short film

laddoo Filmmaker Merlin Babu from India, is going to be first Indian filmmaker to get billing at the Vaughn Film Festival, now in its fourth year.

The Vaughan Film Festival is emerging as the new platform for international filmmakers in Canada and abroad. The Canadian premier of Merlin Babu’s “Laddu: will be screened in the VFFl’s International Block of films. The Indian filmmaking community is earning a name for itself and VFF is a great platform that in its true sense features talents from all over the globe.

Laddoo is a Malayalam fantasy short film written by debutant Jefin Joy and directed by Babu. The film has swept several awards in almost all the major film festivals across India and internationally.

“Our vision is to bring the global to the local. Our journey includes the diverse communities of Canada and foster talent they bring from home. We would love to feature more Indian filmmakers from Canada and abroad,” says Antonio Ienco, co-founder of Vaughan Film Festival.

Vaughan Film Festival features local and international artists. Founded by Antonio Ienco and Mark Pagliaroli of Reel Film Pictures, the annual VFF satisfies the cultural appetite of this growing community while offering an arts forum befitting our world-class city.

The festival showcases multi-genre short films, providing independent film creators here and abroad yet another platform in which to present theirwork. Not only are public film screenings of Canadian and International cinema followed bysensational social events, the VFF Awards Show will be an opportunity for our chosen best to take home a prestigious Golden Reel Award.

This spectacular grand finale will be hosted and attended by some of the finest in the entertainment industry. As a non-for-profit organization the festival also supports and furthers arts education by granting various scholarships and bursaries to young filmmakers, art students and educational institutions in our city.
