Vaughan supplying animal control to King Township

For at least the next three years the people of King Township will be relying on the City of Vaughan for animal control services.
King Township Council made it official Monday night, signing on to a new deal for $200,000 per year, with annual two per cent increases. There are also two one-year renewal provisions on top of the three-year deal.
The City of Vaughan Animal Services Division provides a number of key elements in the contract to King including:
- investigation of complaints regarding domestic dogs running at large, nuisance barking, animal welfare and other concerns;
- provision of 24-hour emergency response to reports of injured domestic animals;
- operation of an animal shelter;
- enforcement of Township bylaws for animal control, vicious dogs, and kennel and doggy daycare licensing;
- reporting of instances of animal cruelty to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA).
The Township has a current agreement with Vaughan that expires April 30. The new deal takes effect from that point forward.
