Thornhill variances approved

NRU
April 6, 2016

In a March 14 decision, board member Laurie Bruce allowed an appeal by Ciro and Rita Polsinelli against the City of Vaughan committee of adjustment’s refusal of their minor variance application for 99 Vaughan Boulevard. The committee had approved their consent application. The Polsinellis propose to sever their property, demolish the existing single-storey dwelling and construct new homes on each of the two lots.

Planner Michael Goldberg (Goldberg Group) provided evidence on behalf of the Polsinellis and in support of the appeal.

He testified the proposed consent will support residential intensification and infilling, and the requested variances meet the required tests under the Planning Act and are consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement and growth plan.

Neighbours Niall Bracken and Barry Crystal attended the hearing and expressed concerns over shadowing, loss of privacy and the location of new trees.

The board agreed with Goldberg’s evidence and allowed the appeal.

The solicitor involved in this decision was Isaiah Banach (Davies Howe) representing Ciro and Rita Polsinelli. [See OMB Case No. PL150901.]
