A $1.4-million construction lien in which more than 100 Leslieville properties were named has been removed, a TTC spokesperson has confirmed to the Star.
The lien, which was related to work on the Leslie streetcar tracks, was registered by Ozz Electrics, a subcontractor for Pomerleau, the company hired by the TTC for the work on the tracks.
The TTC had previously said it is not responsible for the lien, but promised the lien would be removed by the end of the month.
TTC spokesperson Susan Sperling confirmed it had been removed late Friday night.
Construction liens are claims on property commonly put in when work is being done on a property. They give subcontractors a claim on the land, in the same way a bank has a claim on a mortgaged home. If the work is not paid for in time, the lien can delay or complicate the selling of a home on the property.
The lien in Leslieville was technically against the TTC’s right to enter properties along Leslie to do work, but it would still have to be explained when the properties are being sold.
