February 22 Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the expansion of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund and the Connecting Links program. The community infrastructure fund, which will triple from $100 to $300 million per year by 2018-19, allows smaller municipalities to apply for funding for critical infrastructure projects.
The program will provide $20 million in 2016-17 to help municipalities fund construction and repairs for municipal roads that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or border crossing. The expansion of these funding tools is intended to help small rural and northern municipalities build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.
