Vaughan’s Earth Hour event is part of a global movement initiated by World Wildlife Fund back in 2007.
The annual event takes place on a Saturday in March and is celebrated by turning off all non-essential lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to bring attention to the issues of energy conservation and climate change.
Last year, 172 countries participated with more than 41, 000 celebrations taking place across the globe.
