City Of Vaughan Fire & Rescue Service Recruit Graduation Ceremony

Snapd Vaughan East/Woodbridge
March 2016

On Jan. 29th, Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) welcomed new firefighters in a special graduation ceremony and honoured 18 recent promotions. The recruits were celebrated for advancing through a long, rigorous and competitive process to become a Vaughan firefighter.

VFRS received 700 applications to be part of the service. The 17 who were celebrated have now completed the 12-week recruit training program. This training gives them the knowledge and practical skills to perform their duties quickly and efficiently in an emergency.

During the ceremony, the recruits were given their completion certificates and the newly promoted officers were presented with their designated helmets. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, City Manager Steve Kanellakos and fire Chief Larry Bentley each spoke and expressed their gratitude to the firefighters for the work they do every day to keep Vaughan safe. Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service has more than 320 fire service personnel, including 280 firefighters and there are 10 fire stations serving the City of Vaughan. The recruitment process can take more than six months due to the various steps, stiff competition and number of applicants. Once again, congratulations to the seventeen new firefighters joining the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service.
