Vaughan fire crews spent the wee hours of Sunday morning battling a blaze that left a Country Style restaurant charred and gutted.

Trucks began to arrive at the Woodbridge scene, on Hwy. 7, just east of Pine Valley Drive, at 1:30 a.m. and finished battling persistent flames just before 11 a.m. this morning.

While the Country Style is located right next to a Shell gas station, district fire chief Pete Maynard said the fire was contained and not large enough to spread to the gas station..

"It was confined to the building," he told yorkregion.com, adding that crews were forced to open up the roof. "It took so long because there was a partial roof collapse."

The owners of the building who looked on in disbelief, said they had been open at 10 p.m. the night before and said none of the owners had been on site the night before.

One man added that the business had been operating for about three years and that he does have insurance.

"We're all very upset," he said.
