The United Taxi Workers Association of the GTA says it is gearing up for a strike sometime next weekend.

NBA All-Star events take place that weekend in Toronto, and Family Day is on Feb. 15.

About 2,500 taxi drivers and taxi associations from all over the Toronto area met Sunday night to express their anger toward Mayor John Tory.

Paul Sekhon, head of the newly formed group, said the planned strike will be “similar to the one on Dec. 9.”

In December, hundreds of GTA cab drivers rallied downtown, taking over the intersection of Queen St. W. and Bay St. and blocking traffic.

Sajid Mughal, president of the iTaxi Workers Association, told the Star that everyone at the meeting was passionate about the topic.

“The drivers have lost faith in the mayor,” Mughal said.

On Wednesday, Toronto city council backed a move by Mayor John Tory to prevent immediate court action against Uber.
