The Mayor’s Desk: this year a celebration of 25 years of Vaughan as a city

This is a very special year as Vaughan celebrates its 25th anniversary of officially being incorporated as a city. As we look ahead to an exciting future, I am inspired by the passion and energy that exist in every corner of our community and the countless opportunities that exist to make a meaningful contribution to its evolution.

Throughout the past 25 years, Vaughan has experienced significant transformational change. Through the collective efforts of the people who live, work and run their businesses here, we have much to be grateful for. Our commitment to this city is derived from the knowledge and belief that we all play an important role in shaping its future - one where the social, economic and cultural essence will continue to flourish, creating even greater opportunities for success.

Vaughan’s journey has been nothing short of impressive. We started off as a town with a pride of citizenship and an unwavering desire to aim higher. Our values are rooted in humility, optimism and hope. These are the core principles that have laid the foundation of this great city.

Now in my second term as Mayor, I continue to be encouraged by Vaughan’s accomplishments. Our agenda for positive change has proven successful and I am proud of what we have been able to achieve. Together, we have built a first-class administration, supported the development of major city-building initiatives, including the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension, welcomed professional sports with the TFC II, and maintained a great quality of life and standard of living. For our city, the best is yet to come.

As we mark this historic milestone, I invite you to share your stories on vaughan25.ca about what makes Vaughan “The Place to Be”. Together, we will take Vaughan to the next level.
