VINTAGE VAUGHAN: Ice cutting, Patterson Pond

In this photo, c. 1920s, many of Vaughan's residents benefited from the Patterson's 10-acre pond.
Large ice blocks were cut from the pond and delivered to people's ice boxes to help keep produce cool. Ice blocks would be harvested during winter and then placed in a shed and buried in sawdust until needed during the summer months.
