Winter weather will return to northern York Region Dec. 8.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Dec. 7 predicting the first major lake-effect snow event of the season coming off Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

Snow squalls are expected to develop late Dec. 8 over the water and one could stretch from Georgian Bay into Simcoe County and northern York Region through Dec. 9.

The strongest squalls could result in significant accumulating snow.

Travel is expected to be hazardous.
