Driving schools could get a new set of rules to abide by soon.

Newmarket will host a public information meeting regarding a proposed set of new regulations for driving school instructors Dec. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. The regulations are particularly pertinent for wards 2 and 3.

Under the proposal, instructors would be barred from giving lessons within a "restricted area" Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The purpose of the proposed regulation is to decrease traffic on residential streets that are used for driving tests.

This meeting will include information on existing Ministry of Transportation and DriveTest regulations and requirements and enforcement and next steps options for the town.

Staff will be on-hand to discuss the proposed regulations with residents and there will be an opportunity to fill out a feedback form and provide written comments.

The event takes place at town hall, 395 Mulock Dr.

Residents who are unable to attend can learn more by calling 905-895-5193 or visiting newmarket.ca/drivingschools. Residents are encouraged to submit their feedback to clerks@newmarket.ca or by filling out the feedback form and submitting it to the town’s Legislative Services department by Dec. 20.
