What's open, what's closed in York Region over 2016-17 holiday season

The holiday season has finally arrived and here’s a list of what’s open and what’s closed in York Region.

All LCBO and beer stores will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas and New Year’s eves and will be closed on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

York Region Transit and VIVA holiday service begins on Dec. 23. On Dec. 24, 26 and 27 it will be operating on a Saturday holiday schedule, on Dec. 25, Jan. 1 and 2 a Sunday holiday service schedule, both with modified TTC service, and on Dec. 31 a Saturday service with extended service on some routes until 5 a.m. and free rides after 7 p.m.

York Region waste depots are operating on modified hours for the next two weeks and are closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Aurora:

Town hall and Joint Operations Centre will be closed Dec. 26 to Dec. 30 with regular business hours resuming Jan. 2, 2017.

Recreation centres are operating with modified hours. All are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 but pools, ice pads, rock climbing wall and fitness classes are still operating within the modified hours.

Aurora Seniors’ Centre will be closed Dec. 26, 27 and 30.

Aurora Public Library is open from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 and is closed Dec. 25 and 26.

Waste collection is not impacted by the holidays.

East Gwillimbury:

The Civic Centre will be closed Dec. 26 to Jan. 2, 2017.

Waste collection will not be affected.

Georgina:

The Civic Centre and the Link will be closed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.

All town facilities are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Pools, Club 55, gyms, arenas, libraries and the Roc are operating on modified hours throughout the holidays.

Georgina Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre will be open Dec. 27 to 31.

Waste collection the week of Dec. 26 is delayed by one day.

King:

Municipal offices are closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3.

All arenas are closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Nobleton Arena is open on Dec. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Trisan Centre is open on Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon, Dec. 26 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dec. 31 from 8 a.m. to noon.

King City Arena is open on Dec. 26 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Markham:

All of the community centres are closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1, however, many are operating on modified hours, including indoor pools, until Jan. 3.

Markham Civic Centre is closed from Dec. 24 to 27 and Dec. 31 to Jan. 2.

The Civic Centre outdoor rink is closed Dec. 25 but open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 and 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

Varley Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 25 and Dec. 31.

Markham Museum is closed.

Libraries are open from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 and will resume normal hours on Jan. 3.

Waste collection is not impacted by the holidays.

Newmarket:

All town facilities will be closed on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan 1.

The Magna Centre is open from 6 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Both the Magna Centre and Ray Twinney Complex have drop-in programs running throughout the holidays including swimming, aquafit, land fitness, gymnasium, public ice, shinny and track. Check the modified hours.

Garbage collection will not be impacted.

Richmond Hill:

The Town of Richmond Hill will close its municipal offices Dec. 26 and 27 and provide limited services through the holiday season.

The municipal offices will reopen on a limited basis for the remainder of the week. For Dec. 28 and 29, the hours are 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. On Dec. 30, the offices will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at noon for the weekend and Jan. 2. Regular business hours will resume Jan. 3.

All Richmond Hill pools and community centres will be closed on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Closing times on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 are as follows:

Rouge Woods and the Sports Dome are closed.

Centennial — Closes at 10:30 a.m.

Langstaff — Closes at 1 p.m.

Wave Pool — Closes at 4 p.m.

All remaining centres close at 4:30 p.m. on both days.

The lone exception is Richmond Green which is to be open Dec. 31 from 6 until 9 p.m. for First Night activities.

Vaughan:

City hall and the joint operation centre will be closed from Dec. 26 to Dec. 30.

All community centres will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Al Palladini, Father E. Bulfon, Garnet A. Williams, Maple, North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 and some on Dec. 26.

Vaughan animal services will be closed Dec. 25 to Dec. 27 and Jan. 1.

Library closures vary according to the branch; some are closed Dec. 24 to 26 and others from noon on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1.

Waste collection will not be affected and Christmas tree collection is from Jan. 10 to 20.

Whitchurch-Stouffville:

All town facilities are closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Municipal offices are closed from Dec. 24 to Dec. 27 and Dec. 31 to Jan. 2.

The Leisure Centre gym and pool as well at the Stouffville Arena are open on modified hours on Dec. 24.

The WSP Library, Leisure Centre, SoccerCity and Stouffville Arena are operating on modified hours throughout the holidays.

Waste collection will not be impacted by the holidays.
