As we approach the end of 2016, we can look back on what was an exciting and eventful year for the City of Vaughan, and be proud of our many accomplishments. From the groundbreaking of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital to the opening of the first office building in our new downtown — the KPMG Tower — it has been a year to remember.
We marked Vaughan’s 25th anniversary as a city and celebrated this milestone throughout the year. We hosted a signature event in October where the community joined in the festivities and we recognized the first 25 people to receive the Order of Vaughan — our city’s highest civic honour.
Vaughan was named one of the top 20 best places to live in the country and one of the top two best places in Ontario to do business — creating jobs and prosperity for our citizens. Being ranked as one of the best places in Canada is proof that our vision of creating a world-class city is becoming a reality. I am confident we will continue this impressive momentum and I know the best is yet to come.
We marked the completion of track installation for the subway extension to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and joined Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca for a funding announcement for the Yonge Subway Extension. The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario was here on Canada Day for a special citizenship ceremony. It was a privilege to be a part of this special moment in the lives of the men, women and children who, in a very public way, pledged their commitment to Canada.
Our team continues to provide service excellence, improving our quality of life and standard of living. Our commitment to public service and to enhancing the citizen experience is what drives us as we deliver on our Term of Council priorities. We ended 2016 on a high note with a record-setting donation of $105,700.40 to United Way Toronto and York Region. This contribution is a testament to the generosity of our team.
From my family to yours — all the best for the New Year!
