A Vaughan insurance brokerage owner has been honoured as one of this country’s “most powerful” women by a national networking organization.

Joyce Usher-Mesiano, president of National Brokers Insurance, was named as a Women's Executive Network (WXN) 2016 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 award winner at a gala reception at the Metro Toronto Convention Center Nov. 24.

She received the CIBC Entrepreneur Award honouring women who own and operate businesses.

“I am humbled and honoured to represent my team and to be included on such an amazing list of women,” Usher-Mesiano said in a news release.

Launched in 2003, the awards celebrate the accomplishments of top female executives as well as their organizations and networks. Past recipients include author Margaret Atwood and former Governor General Michaelle Jean.

Usher-Mesiano was recognized, in part, for her efforts to help women thrive and succeed.

“The success and growth of all of our companies I owe in-part to the guidance and mentorship I received through membership in female leadership organizations,” she said. “And to now be recognized by WXN and to be included on such an extraordinary list of women, is truly a full circle moment for myself and my team.”
