"Wow."
That was the response from Councillor Linda Pabst after Mackenzie Health CEO/president Altaf Stationwala delivered a presentation about the new hospital opening in Vaughan in 2020.
The hospital will serve a large percentage of King Township residents, which is why Stationwala and two other partners in the construction of the multi-year, $1.2-billion megaproject were there Monday.
The hospital, which will be located across the road from Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan at Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street, adjacent to Hwy. 400, will boast a gross floor area of 1.2 million square feet.
It will have 350 beds of which 90 per cent will be private, accommodate 75,000 emergency visits a year, be available for 140,000 medical imaging exams annually, allow for 3,100 births per annum, perform 6,300 surgeries yearly, and have up to 1,800 pediatric urgent care clinic visits each year.
The hospital will employ state-of-the-art SMART technology with everything completely online said Stationwala. He said testing is already underway at the Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill Hospital site to make sure Vaughan is ready in four years time when it opens for patients.
