Taxpayer advocacy group hosting open house on fire services spending

Newmarket and Aurora’s top firefighters will answer questions about their department’s spending habits Nov. 24.

The Newmarket Taxpayers Advocacy Group will host an open house featuring Central York Fire Services Chief Ian Laing and Deputy Chief Rocco Volpe.

NTAG volunteers recently met with CYFS staff to discuss ‘excessive’ spending on meals, gifts and parties within the department. Laing explained the fiscal efficiencies implemented by CYFS staff recently, NTAG president Teena Bogner said in a press release.

The event will be held at Madsen’s Greenhouses, 160 Bayview Pkwy., Newmarket, at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served.
