Two best friends trying to make a difference in the world, and they are - one sock at a time.

“The Odd Sox Project is a mission Charley and I started to collect single socks for the homeless,” said Carly Goldhar, co-founder of the Odd Sox Project.

Carly Goldhar and Charley Rangel are both passionate about making people feel good. Helping the homeless has always been important to them, so they did some research and discovered that one of the most needed items in homeless shelters today are socks – and the rest is history.

“Since last year we’ve been pushing ourselves,” said Charley Rangel, co-founder of the Odd Sox Project. “So after school we come together, organize socks (and) sometimes our friends come over to help.”

The girls have been working hard trying to get the word out about the project by hosting sock drives throughout York Region and Toronto.

“We now have a P.O. box that we had to get because our garage is just overflowing,” said Carley’s mom Lori Goldhar.

“Socks are getting mailed in from all over Canada.”

To date, more than 30,000 pairs of socks have been collected and donated to GTA shelters.

“It feels good to know that your kids care and are making a difference,” said Charley’s mom Rachel Dicker.
