Thornhill, like many communities across the Greater Toronto Area, is changing. People everywhere are concerned about their environmental impact, and while walking and cycling are becoming more common in more densely packed central city neighbourhoods, travel distances are often greater in the surrounding communities, and those transport options are not so always the practical ones there.
When Devron Developments designed their new development on Yonge Street in Thornhill called The Vanguard, sustainability and a green lifestyle was a top priority. Environmentally friendly features for the 25-storey Kirkor Architects-designed condominium development start with construction, in the use of locally sourced materials, and continue with systems being put in place across the development, like a building wide water filtration system, and even exercise bikes that feed power back into the building’s grid. When it came to providing more sustainable transportation options for its residents, Devron knew they could address that in the parking garage with Electric Vehicle chargers, including Tesla Destination Chargers. These devices will allow residents to consider a green alternative for their personal vehicles.
Aiming to raise awareness of the role real estate developers can play in the push for sustainable transportation, Devron hosted a giveaway earlier this month, where a lucky entree won a 4-year lease on a 2016 Tesla® Model X electric vehicle. The draw took place on November 5th at The Vanguard's presentation centre, with everyone who scheduled a tour at the presentation centre between October 15 and November 3 in the running for the prize. While no condominium purchase was necessary to be eligible for the draw, the contest winner—Evan Panikkar of Thornhill—is indeed a purchaser in the development.
In addition to enjoying environmentally friendly features—all of which will contribute to help the project meet its target LEED Gold status—The Vanguard's residents will also benefit from family friendly elements, a selection of amenities, and a large retail component that will help to animate the stretch of Yonge Street between Grandview Avenue and Woodward Avenue.
