The ban on street parking between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the winter months has been lifted.
Aurora town council gave the green light to the winter overnight parking pilot program for the 2016-17 winter months. Under the previous parking rules, parking on the street overnight between Nov. 15 and April 15 was prohibited but the new program allows residents to park on residential streets overnight except when the town announces a “snow event”.
The idea stemmed from resident complaints regarding the inability to park on the street in the winter, especially when there was minimal snowfall and little need for snow plowing.
This pilot is about loosening restrictions on residents, while ensuring that vehicles are still removed from roadways in the event snow plowing is required, according to the town.
A snow event will be called by the town 24 hours before a snowfall with the expected accumulation of eight centimetres and restrictions will continue for 24 hours following the snowfall to allow for plowing.
Vehicles parked on a street during a snow event may be ticketed.
Residents are responsible for checking the town website, or calling the snow hotline, 905-727-3123 ext. 4152 to find out if restrictions are in effect.
