The community came together last night for a signature event to mark Vaughan's 25th anniversary as a city. More than 1,000 people joined Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council at Riviera Parque to pay tribute to Vaughan's heritage, celebrate its achievements and look ahead to its exciting future.

The evening began with the inaugural ceremony for the Order of Vaughan, which is the highest civic honour bestowed by the City. To commemorate Vaughan's silver anniversary, 25 citizens were appointed into the Order of Vaughan. These individuals have and continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the city.

This year we celebrate the dynamic and vibrant essence that is the City of Vaughan. With a new downtown core rising from the ground, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, a subway on the horizon and the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital in the process of being built, the standard of living and quality of life continue to be enhanced in the city. Vaughan's evolution over the past quarter-century has been remarkable and would not have been possible without its single greatest asset - the people who live and work in the city and contribute to its continued success.
