Annual Hospice Vaughan Gala

On October 14, 2016, over 1050 people attended Hospice Vaughan’s Giving Thanks Gala, in support of the 10 Bed Residential Hospice and Palliative Care Centre of Excellence initiative which will provide patients with quality end of life care. The gala and auction, which took place at the Terrace Banquet Centre, netted in excess of $400,000 through
corporate sponsorships, community ticket sales and donated auction items, making this event the most successful in Hospice Vaughan’s history.
Hospice Vaughan’s vision is to establish a residential Hospice and Palliative Care Centre of Excellence for the delivery of hospice palliative care in the City of Vaughan. This centre will house a 24,000 sq. ft., state-of the-art, facility which will serve as a hub for surrounding communities in southwest York Region. The Centre will include 10 residential hospice
beds, space for outreach programs, including a day hospice, grief and bereavement programs for adults, teens and children, and will include dedicated space for research and education.
In support of Hospice Vaughan’s vision, to build a 10 bed Residential Hospice and Palliative Care Centre of Excellence, the Provincial Government, through the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, has committed to invest $1.05Mn annually
to Hospice Vaughan once the construction of this Centre of Excellence is completed.
In addition, on July 22, 2016, the Toronto Region and Conservation Authority granted Hospice Vaughan approval to enter into a long-term lease for the use of 2.8 acres of TRCA land located on Islington Ave, north of Rutherford Rd, in the City
of Vaughan. This land will be the future home of Hospice Vaughan’s 10 Bed Residential Hospice and Palliative Care Centre of Excellence.
Hospice Vaughan has received additional financial support from Saint Elizabeth through its investment of $300,000 over two years to help with realization of this vision.
