Golfers gathered on the green on September 23rd for the annual Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Charity Golf Classic to tee-up in support of a noble mission - to move Vaughan forward without leaving anyone behind. The annual event was held at Eagle's Nest Golf Club and raised thousands of dollars for more than 100 charities, not-for-profits and community organizations.
Throughout the past six years, the Charity Golf Classic - together with the Mayor's Gala - has raised more than $5 million to help groups that provide essential services to the community.
Proceeds from the two events have been directed to many important causes including youth, seniors, special needs and education organizations, women's centres, arts and cultural initiatives, and sports groups. Distributed proceeds have been used for many important purposes, including iPads for children with autism, expansion of hospice programs, camp programs for children, toys for children at Christmas, to help victims of abuse and to build a new home for special needs adults.
"I continue to be inspired by the spirit of generosity that defines our community. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who participated in this year's golf tournament. Residents and business leaders play an important role in city-building and the impact of their contributions is tremendous. Our commitment to bring about positive change continues to touch the lives of people in this city in a very meaningful way. I also want to extend my thanks to PowerStream president and CEO Brian Bentz for chairing the tournament - he remains dedicated to our goal of giving back and contributes to making this event a success each year. By working together, we are helping thousands of people and giving them the gift of hope for a better tomorrow."
