Ontario Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital

Today, construction is beginning on a new hospital -- the first in the city of Vaughan -- that will provide advanced health care services to more than 500,000 people.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will help patients by providing modern surgical services and operating rooms, advanced diagnostic imaging and other specialized services. The hospital will have 342 beds on opening day. The majority of rooms for patients in acute care will be private.
Health care professionals at Mackenzie Health will use the most advanced smart technology available to enhance the patient experience. With an integrated picture of a patient's medical condition, patients will be connected with support beyond the new hospital's walls -- including Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, outpatient clinics, and community physicians -- to support a patient's continuity of care.
This is one of about 35 major hospital projects across the province under construction or in various stages of planning.

- Ontario is investing up to $1.3 billion in the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital project. Construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
- Ontario is investing $12 billion over 10 years in capital grants to hospitals to build modern infrastructure and ensure that hospitals keep their facilities in a state of good repair.
- Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Mackenzie Health to build the new facility, which will be publicly owned, controlled and accountable.
- Mackenzie Health is a regional health care provider consisting of Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and a network of community-based services in and beyond Southwest York Region.
