Kick the clutter.

If you have clutter, York Region wants to help you get rid of it during its waste reduction week open house. From Oct. 17 to 21, the region is celebrating waste reduction week and hosting an event to help residents learn to clear out closets while keeping unwanted items out of the landfill.

On Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can drop off cloth, pharmaceutical and electronic items as well as batteries, eyeglasses and documents that need shredding. Items can be taken to the Great Hall in the York Region Administrative Centre, 17250 Yonge St., Newmarket.

During the event, demonstrations will be given on milk bag mats, refinishing wood furniture and DIY projects using common household materials.
