What happens to trees that have to be cut down to stop the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer?

The good wood is used to make lumber.

The city's urban forestry management division is selling reclaimed lumber from ash trees that had to be taken down due to the presence of the ash-eating insect.

Boards from the trees will be sold at 791 Webber Ave. on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. They've been seasoned and cut in a sawmill, the city states.

The boards are about 8 feet long and 6 to 12 inches wide, and prices based on thickness, with 1-inch boards selling for $5 and two-inch for $10. The city states the lumber is of varying quality.

Sales will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with no advance reservations. Lumber must be loaded into customers' vehicles and removed on the day of the sale.
