Mohawk College, the federal government and nearly a dozen other partners have announced plans to build a new cleantech research and development site in the GTA.
Destined for Woodbridge, Ont., just north of Toronto, the $9.3 million commercialization hub will focus on developing energy-management software and new energy storage technologies.
FedDev Ontario plans to contribute $4.6 million to the project, while 11 strategic partners—including industrial giant Siemens, Schneider Electric, post-secondary institutions and other energy industry players—will invest the remainder of the funds.
Hamilton-based Mohawk College will spearhead the project—which will be located at the Kortright Centre for Conservation in Woodbridge.
The R&D site is expected to create 82 jobs.
