Several animal rights activists gathered outside a banquet hall in Vaughan on Saturday to protest the controversial African trophy hunting show.

One of the organizers of the protest said the show promotes “the senseless slaughter of majestic African animals.”

The Africa Show is run by African Events Canada. It’s being held at the Premier Place Banquet Hall in Concord, a suburb of Vaughan.

A representative said the company has had a hard time finding a venue for their show, because of the threat of a protest.

The first two venues they booked eventually cancelled, but they found a new location at the last minute.

York regional police said the protesters have promised to be peaceful, and they’re monitoring the situation.
